It’s easy to become a public figure

With the internet and the different social media platforms that people use to speak their mind, it has become much easier for a singular voice to become recognized by the public. With this recognition comes power, and a person who has never done anything to garner actual fame may gain notoriety just by the content they share and the followers they gain.

Twitter verification

Twitter VerificationYou’ll remember that in an earlier blog post, we discussed the buying and selling of Instagram accounts and followers.  We ultimately concluded that it’s probably best to attract followers to original content the good old-fashioned way—by doing it yourself.  Today we’ll be looking at something less clear-cut: buying the Twitter verification mark. 

The Twitter verification is a way of distinguishing people who, for whatever reason, have influential power.  They aren’t necessarily smarter or wealthier than the rest of us, but their words have more pull.

Public figures are unlikely to recover

Addy Rogers, Pepperdine studentIt’s harder than ever before to define what constitutes as a public figure. Today, there are as many species of public figures as there are butterflies in the Amazon Rainforest. With the advancement of social media it’s nearly impossible to create a specific, inclusive, and applicable definition of what constitutes as a public figure. There are countless public figures on social media alone due to the legions of followers they have. “Official profiles” are not just reserved for movie stars and models anymore.
