Student | Claire FaginThough I did not realize it prior to this project, court cases and movies have a lot in common.  For starters, there are striking similarities between the job of a director on set, and a lawyer in a courtroom.  While directors apply overarching film theories to specific projects to give them a certain feel, lawyers apply abstract legal theories to the specific case they are working on in order to fight it in the most effective way possible.

Court Film

Student | Daniel CattonThe American court system could greatly benefit from various aspects of Film.  First and foremost, the trial process needs stricter guidelines regarding time.  The sixth amendment states, “In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy trial.”  In Film, there is an exact schedule that states what will be covered on which day.  If this was practiced in the court of law, cases could be resolved in a much timelier fashion.  Secondly, there is constant communication on a film set.  The editing…

Virtual reality and goldfish

Student | Cayley Olivier I attended a case where the defendant, Godinez, was accused of robbery of Malin Torres under Penal Code 212.5 ( C ) and unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle under Vehicle Code 10851 ( A ).  I found the different methods both attornies used to deliver their closing arguments very intriguing as they both had different approaches.
